Despite the unpopularity of pirates in history, they certainly have taken over the fictional world multiple times. Perhaps the most famous imaginary work on pirates is the book Treasure Island, written in 1881 by Robert Louis Stevenson. Yet that is just one sample of the many beloved pirate stories.
